The single most common mistake on a Bali ATV tour is turning up in something you like. Red clay does not reliably wash out of light fabric, and on the Ubud and Sukawati tracks you will not stay clean — the mud section is the part everyone rides straight through.
What to wear
- Shorts or light trousers you do not care about. Dark colours hide clay better than white.
- A T-shirt or rash vest, again nothing you want to keep clean.
- Closed shoes to arrive in. Riding boots are provided and you change into them at the base.
- Swimwear underneath if you are riding a track with a river crossing, or pairing the ride with rafting.
- Hair tied back, and sunglasses for the dry tracks at Uluwatu and Kintamani.
What to bring
- A full change of clothes, including underwear. You will need it.
- A plastic bag for the wet, muddy set.
- A towel — showers are provided at the bases, towels are not.
- Sunscreen, and insect repellent for the jungle sections at Jatiluwih and Sukawati.
- An action camera on a secure chest or helmet mount, never handheld.
- A light jacket for Kintamani, which runs 6–8°C cooler than the coast.
What is already included
Every ATV tour on this site includes a helmet, riding boots, gloves and a body protector, along with drinking water and activity insurance. You do not need to bring or hire any safety equipment. The bases have showers, soap and a changing area.
Dry tracks need different thinking
Uluwatu and Kintamani are dusty rather than muddy, and the dust is fine and pale and gets into everything. Sunglasses matter more than a change of clothes there, and a buff or bandana is worth having if you are sensitive to dust. The Uluwatu plateau in particular has almost no shade.
Questions
Can I wear sandals on an ATV tour in Bali?
Arrive in closed shoes rather than sandals. Riding boots are provided at the base and you change into them before the tour, but the ground around the base is uneven and often muddy.
Should I bring a towel for an ATV tour?
Yes. The ATV bases have showers, soap and a changing area, but towels are not provided. Bring one along with a full change of clothes and a bag for the muddy ones.
Will my phone survive an ATV tour in Bali?
Only in a waterproof case or left behind. The Ubud and Sukawati tracks involve a river crossing and deep mud, and spray reaches everything. An action camera on a chest or helmet mount is the reliable option.
