About the Melangit Rafting
The Melangit is the river you book when you have heard the Ayung gets busy. It runs through Bakas village in Klungkung, east of Ubud, down a canyon that is narrower and steeper-sided than the Ayung gorge, with bamboo leaning in from both banks and very few other boats on the water.
The water itself is comparable — grade II and III, two hours, a mix of quick technical sections and slow green pools — but the feel is different. Where the Ayung can have a line of rafts working through a rapid, the Melangit often gives you the canyon to yourselves, and the guides are less rushed as a result.
It costs IDR 100,000 more than the Ayung. What that buys is space, and a valley where the loudest sound is the river.
