Ask a questionItinerary
- 10:00Arrival and briefing
Check in at the Sukawati base, gear up with helmet, boots, gloves and body protector, and take the controls briefing. The guide covers the cave section specifically: slow, headlights on, no overtaking inside.
- 20:15Practice lap
A lap on flat ground to get comfortable with the throttle and brake before the descent, which starts steeper than the Ubud track does.
- 30:25Jungle descent and river crossing
Down through dense jungle on a narrowing track into the river valley, then across the water. This is the wettest part of the route and the footwells fill.
- 40:55The Barong Cave
The track leads to the cave mouth and you ride straight in, single file, headlights on. The guide stops inside for photos, where the sound of the machines and the drop in temperature are the whole point.
- 51:10Clay climb and village track
Out of the valley up the clay bank — the one section where the guide talks each rider through the line — then a slower stretch through the village and back to base.
- 61:30Clean up
Showers, soap and a changing room at the base, plus somewhere to bag the wet clothes before you get back in a car.

About the Barong Cave ATV
Sukawati sits south of Ubud, and its private track has something none of the others do: a cave tunnel wide enough and tall enough to ride an ATV through, lit only by your headlights and whatever daylight reaches in from either end. It is a genuinely strange 40 seconds — cold air, engine noise bouncing off rock walls, and then green again.
The rest of the route earns its place too. The track runs down through jungle into a river valley, crosses water, climbs a steep clay bank that is the most technical thing on any of these tours, and passes through a working village where the road is shared with chickens and the occasional grandmother on a scooter.
This is the tour to pick if you have already done a rice-field ATV ride elsewhere in Bali and want something with a feature in it. It is IDR 50,000 more than the Ubud single ride, which buys you the cave.
Safety, weather and cancellation
Every ride starts with a briefing from the team. You are fitted with a machine, full safety gear and clear riding instructions, then given a practice lap on flat ground before the track begins — so nobody sets off unsure of what the throttle does.
All guides are local, English-speaking, and ride the track with your group rather than sending you off alone.
Tours run in light rain — the tracks are at their best when they are wet. If conditions are genuinely unsafe the activity is rescheduled or refunded in full, and that call is made by the guide on the day.
