About the Blue Lagoon Snorkeling
Blue Lagoon is a small bay just around the headland from Padang Bai harbour, and it is the site people are sent to when they want snorkelling without any drama. It is shallow, it is sheltered from the swell, the bottom shelves gently, and the current is mild — none of which is true of Nusa Penida.
The reef starts a few metres from the beach and runs out to about eight metres deep. There are decent numbers of reef fish, some soft coral, the occasional turtle, and blue-spotted rays sitting on the sand at the edges where most people never look.
It is a two-hour trip, no fast boat crossing needed, and it works particularly well for children, for anyone snorkelling for the first time, and for people who have looked at the Nusa Penida current warnings and decided against them. It also pairs with Telaga Waja rafting on the same day, which is one of the combo packages.
