Bali's ATV tracks are family-friendly, but not uniformly. The minimum age to drive, the minimum age to ride as a passenger and the tone of the ride vary track by track, and the rules are enforced at registration when your child's height and age are checked. Here is everything we know, so nobody is disappointed at the venue.
The two ages that matter
Minimum driving age is the age at which a child may control their own quad on a single package. Minimum passenger age is the youngest a child may sit behind an adult on a tandem quad. Riders under 18 need a parent or guardian at the venue to sign the operator's waiver.

Where an operator says only "younger children ride tandem", guides use judgement on the day: the child must be able to sit securely, hold the grab rail and wear the smallest helmet, which in practice means about 5 years and up.
What a 12-year-old is actually driving
The quads are automatic 250cc machines with thumb throttle and hand brakes, no clutch, no gears. Guides ride at the front and set the pace to the slowest rider. A 12-year-old who can ride a bicycle confidently and reach the handlebars comfortably will manage the standard trail; the guides have taught hundreds of them. If your 12–15-year-old is small for their age, tandem is the safer choice and nobody at the venue will judge it.
Choosing a track for a family
Youngest passengers (5+): Wahana Bali Adventure, Pertiwi Adventure and All New Bali Adventures. All three run through farmland and villages with mud and shallow water; none has the very steep ravine descent of Kuber.
Best all-rounder for kids aged 6+: Kuber ATV. The cave is a hit with children, the venue has the best facilities (a big restaurant, proper showers) and the 08:30 or 10:00 slot avoids the midday heat. Tandem for two is Rp 850,000 at the venue.
Best value for a family of four: Green Bali, if the children are 7–15 and the adults are 16+. Two tandems cost Rp 1,200,000 for four people, and the gorilla cave and waterfall are memorable. Remember: no under-16 drivers here.
Closest to the southern resorts: Bukit Sari in Pecatu for Nusa Dua, Jimbaran and Uluwatu families; Beji River for Sanur.
Booking a family group
A typical family of four with one child under 12 books one tandem (parent + child) plus two singles at the same track, date and time. Everyone rides in the same group. Teenagers who meet the driving age can have their own quad. Book each package for the same date and time slot (one booking per package); if the combination is unusual, message us on WhatsApp and we will make sure the venue reserves the right bikes.
Guest questions at checkout ask for each rider's full name so the operator can prepare the waivers; add children's ages in the special requests box.
Safety notes for parents
- Helmets and rubber boots are provided in children's sizes from about age 5; ask us to confirm availability for very small children.
- Basic personal accident insurance is included at every track and covers passengers. It is not travel insurance; make sure your family policy covers motorised activities.
- Pregnant women and anyone with heart, back or neck conditions should not ride, even as a passenger.
- Sunscreen and insect repellent before the ride, a full change of clothes after. Read our what to wear guide.
- The 09:00–10:00 slots are cooler and calmer for kids; avoid 13:00–14:00 in the dry season.
Toddlers and non-riders
Children under 5 cannot ride at any track. Every venue has a restaurant or waiting pavilion where a non-riding parent can wait with a small child, and rides last about 1.5 hours plus 30 minutes for the shower and lunch. Some families split the day: one parent rides the 10:00 slot, the other the 11:30 or 12:00 slot.
Questions parents ask us most
Can two children share a tandem? No. The passenger seat is for one person and the driver must be an adult (or a teenager who meets the driving age). Two children means two adults driving two tandems.
Can my 10-year-old drive with me walking alongside? No. Below the driving age children ride only as passengers. Guides are strict about this because the waiver and insurance depend on it.
Is there a weight limit? Operators do not publish one, but a tandem pair over roughly 160 kg combined will struggle on the 250cc climbs. Choose Alasan's 450cc tandem or Beji River's 350cc tandem for two adults, or singles.
Will the ride be too scary for a nervous child? Guides slow the group for family pairs and skip the deepest mud pool on request. Tell the guide at the briefing; they adjust the line every day for exactly this.
Do you need ID for the children? No passport is required, but the parent signs the waiver with the child's name and age, so have those ready.
Cancellation matters more with kids
Children get sick, plans change. If flexibility matters, choose a track with free 24-hour cancellation: Green Bali, Beji River or Bukit Sari, or the near-free terms at Kuber (99%) and Alasan (96%). Wahana, Pertiwi and All New Bali Adventures are non-refundable but allow free date changes with 24 hours' notice (16 hours at Pertiwi). Full details on the cancellation policy page.
